Focus to Flourish and RISE Community of Practice Events


RISE's Community of Practice will be running a range of activities and events from October to December in line with RISE's Focus to Flourish messaging campaign on accelerating learning progress.

Events and activities across our community

In addition to our overarching campaign and global webinars taking place, here are details of activities and events happening in-country across our community. 

These events are run by members of RISE’s Community of Practice, under the banner of our #FromSchoolingToLearning messaging campaign, and supported by funds from RISE through a competitive award scheme.

Argentina Argentinos por la Educación Multi-stakeholder event 28 October (event); 3 November (video released on social networks) School in Buenos Aires  “Soñando por la Educación” (“Dreaming for Education”) event where a school community in Buenos Aires received celebrities, journalists and civil society actors to talk about education in Argentina, its challenges, and how we can contribute to improve it (videographers/photographers present).
Côte d’Ivoire TaRL Africa, Côte d’Ivoire office Stakeholder breakfast 8 December TBC Abidjan, Centre National de Matériels Scientifiques (CNMS) Stakeholder breakfast meeting in Abidjan with key education stakeholders, including from the ministry of education, philanthropies, multilaterals, and local education groups.
India Language & Learning Foundation (LLF) Reading Festival 10th November (online webinar); 14th November (reading festival) Kurukshetra, Haryana As part of the RISE Campaign, a Reading Festival will be organised by LLF with an aim to inculcate and revive the habit of reading among students, create joy for reading in their early years and share good literature beyond the textbooks, through two measures: (a) capacity building of teachers and teacher educators through an online webinar (event held in Hindi) on teaching literacy in engaging ways (b) and showcasing best practices and engagement strategies for inculcating joy for reading via a reading festival in Kurukshetra.
Indonesia Global School Leaders & INSPIRASI Foundation Policy discussion campaign 29 October tbc (offline stakeholder meeting); 15 November tbc (district-level meeting); 18 November tbc (national event)  Karawang Policy discussion campaign: “INSPIRASI Space: TaRL Principles for Learning Loss Recovery”, focused on sharing policies, practices, and findings from studies that utilise targeted instruction. Three events (dates to be confirmed): online stakeholder meeting in Karawang on 29 October; a district-level meeting in Karawang on 15 November, and a national event (online) on 18 November.
Indonesia SMERU & The Conversation Indonesia In-country media campaign 24 October-9 December Country-wide (Indonesia) Media and civil society campaign, with activities throughout, including media articles, podcasts, and social media (Instagram stories) aligned with RISE campaign messaging, drawing on RISE Indonesia Country Research Team work. 
Kenya Lwala Community Alliance Community campaign/ activation 24 October-9 December North Kamagambo “Champion caregiver campaign”, Lwala Community Alliance will sensitize and create awareness on the role of parent & caregivers on foundational learning. We will target North Kamagambo where Lwala has established networks and the campaign is likely to help advance our quest to enhance caregiver involvement in the life of younger children.
Kenya The Sunflower Trust Bookmaking camp 24 October-2 December Nairobi Bookmaking bootcamp/activities in Nairobi plus a showcase (with students aged 10-15, teachers, and parents).
Malawi Save the Children TBC TBC TBC An advocacy activity related to catch up clubs in a chosen country e.g., intergenerational dialogues between children and decision-makers, expert panel sessions, media interviews, press releases, TV, or radio spots.
Nigeria TaRL Africa, Nigeria office In-country media campaign 28 October-9 December (throughout) Country-wide (Nigeria) In-country media activities that will include the authoring and publishing one op-ed in a Nigerian national newspaper, two blog posts and the production and circulation of a video
Nigeria The Education Partnership (TEP) Centre Multi-stakeholder event 25 October, 10am Nigeria Time Lagos TEP Centre hosted a new edition of their knowledge sharing and co-creation platform, “EdMeets” on Foundational Learning.
Pakistan Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) & musicians Song-based learning camps 24 October-9 December Schools in Karachi & Lahore Song-based learning camps: “Learning through Harmonies/Gain aur Seekhain", teaching literacy through song-based pedagogy as part of the Pakistan Learning Festival. Held across three schools in Karachi & Lahore. Songs and teacher support materials will be integrated into an app.
Peru GRADE Policy event 22-24 November, 6pm Peru Time Lima

High level policy events in Peru engaging regional policy actors, focused on support for teachers (event will be held in Spanish):

22 November: Conecta Ideas and the experience of promoting learning in mathematics using digital media

23 November: Crece Lee and the experience of promoting reading using digital media

24 November: Growing with Multigrade Rural Schools in Peru (CREER)

Tanzania Uwezo Tanzania Showcasing an approach 24 October-9 December Pwani region Uwezo will showcase its Jifunze technique to policy makers and public in social media to prove that all children can learn. The Jifunze (meaning “learning”) initiative demonstrates how children in class 3-5 who are behind in basic numeracy and literacy can be identified and supported to improve skills in a short period.
