Introducing the New RISE Podcast!
In our new podcast, members of the RISE community will highlight the stories and ‘big picture’ ideas that inspire their work in education.

Stories, not standard deviations
RISE is very excited to announce the arrival of the RISE Podcast, a regular podcast series in which members of our community will discuss the big ideas and personal stories that inspire their work. Centred around ‘stories, rather than standard deviations’, these conversations will shed light on the human perspective behind research, practice, and policymaking.
Why a podcast?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many have felt the loss of the opportunity to gather together as we usually would to share stories and perspectives from our work.
While online events have continued to provide chances to connect, some of the best moments for learning and exchange happen informally on the side-lines of events.
The new RISE Podcast aims to re-create this atmosphere of close, personal storytelling to showcase the individual journeys that make up the global education community’s endeavours.
Each episode of the RISE Podcast features a conversation with a member of the RISE community. Our guests bring with them stories and expertise from a variety of experiences in research, practice, and policy, and it's our hope that their insights will illuminate many different facets of education systems.
What’s in our first episode?
In our first podcast episode, RISE Research Manager Marla Spivack speaks to Dr. Dzingai Mutumbuka, the current chair of the RISE Delivery Board and the first Minister of Education and Culture of Zimbabwe upon its independence. In the episode, Dr. Mutumbuka shares a wealth of insights from his career as a leader in education. He speaks about the importance of purpose and priorities in education, the challenges ministers face, and ways in which government and development partners can work together to produce better results for children.
