Open Call for Papers - RISE Annual Conference 2018
RISE is pleased to announce an open call for papers for the fourth annual Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE) Programme Conference. The conference will take place from Thursday, 21 June through Friday, 22 June 2018 at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.
RISE is a large scale, multi-country research programme developed to answer the question: “How can education systems be reformed to deliver better learning for all?” The RISE Programme Annual Conferences bring together high-profile academics and policy makers for two days of lively debate (e.g., RISE Annual Conference 2017).
In many countries, children now have access to schooling but learning profiles are too shallow - the learning crisis. The 2018 RISE Conference will present in-depth diagnoses of why education systems are failing to deliver adequate learning. It will also feature preliminary insights from research into how these system-level incoherencies might be fixed. Presentations will draw on research undertaken in the six RISE countries: Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Vietnam. In addition, we are issuing an open call for papers from researchers working on these and any other developing countries.
Submissions are invited in any area of research relating to education systems, although papers in the following areas are particularly welcome:
- Curriculum (E.g., is teaching taking place at the right level?)
- Information and Assessment (E.g., what is measured, how well, and how is this information used?)
- Teachers (E.g., how are teachers recruited, and how are they trained and supported?)
- Financing and Support (E.g., how are schools funded by government, parents, and communities?)
Full papers (not abstracts) should be submitted by noon UK GMT on Friday, 30 March 2018 to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in attending the conference, please visit the RISE website and fill in the online form. Email correspondence can be directed to Phil Barber of the RISE communications team (email@example.com). Authors of accepted papers will be notified no later than 20 April 2018. RISE will reimburse the cost of return travel to the conference and up to two night’s accommodation in Oxford for all presenters. General attendees will be notified of a conference place from April 2018.
